Introducing Charlie

After a very long hiatus, I am finally back. I know I’ve said that before… but this time I’m hoping it’ll stick!

A lot has happened in my life since I last did a post. A lot of great things ๐Ÿ˜€

The biggest and best thing is that Anthony and I were blessed with the birth of our son Charlie.

He is 6 weeks old today and a real cutie!

He is extremely precious and I’m really excited to see what sort of person he’ll grow up to be (not to mention being a little less sleep deprived at some point…)

In between feeding Charlie, sleeping, spending time with family and friends and trying to not let the housework get too out of control, I’ve managed to fit in a little bit of knitting.

I’m currently working on a beret.

I’m not sure how it’s going to turn out because the wool is extremely thick and I normally knit this pattern with different yarn, but we’ll see.ย I’ve got so many ideas flooding my brain at the moment and lots of new and nice yarn to knit with, that it’s taking a lot of self control to continue with this project and to not cast on something different!

Ta Ta for now.

Back in the Game

I’m back! Many thanks to the people who have commented, facebooked and texted me to offer support and well wishes. It has been a big relief to not have to do craft every day and to just enjoy my evenings without the pressure of ‘yet another task’.

On that note, I have done some reflecting on the original purpose of this blog – which was to give me a creative outlet that would add some happiness into my day and be a stress relief of sorts. And it has been that at times (certainly was at the beginning). But it has also added stress because I’ve set a daily task for myself, and that has taken away the ideal of spontaneous creativity. Given that the blog is not meeting my intended goal, I have decided to make some changes.

Firstly, I am no longer going to do a post every day. Instead I am thinking that anywhere between 2-4 posts per week will be great.

Secondly, I will continue to follow the weekly theme of Craft-A-Day (this week being ‘square week’), but I will fill less constricted about following the craft set for that particular date. Instead I’ll pick my favourites from the week, or just make up my own design. Whatever takes my fancy. Or maybe I’ll just talk about other stuff all together.

Thirdly, I’m going to do away with A Slip And A Stitch and instead incorporate my knitting posts into Creatively Carolyn. Two blogs is more than I can maintain.

Fourthly, I am going to focus more energy on the things that I know are helpful for me. Do more of what makes me happy. This past week and a bit, that has been running. I have always thought of myself as a ‘non-runner’ but it turns out that I can run for 20 minutes without stopping ๐Ÿ™‚ And what a marvellous result it has had on my energy and happiness levels throughout the day!ย

Lastly, I have a cool little card to show you. It’s geometrical, blue and it makes me smile.

Thanks for joining me on this journey ๐Ÿ™‚

Reflecting on the past and looking to the future

Anthony here,

Carolyn is taking a break.

Have you ever taken a look back on your life? I think I do it almost everyday. What I really wanted to do for this blog post was to get out all of the crafts that Carolyn has done so far (that haven’t been given away as prizes) and have a look at them all for some inspiration.

I then had a fun time organising them so I took some photos!

How fun! My wife is so special and so wonderful. She will be back in a few days.

Craft Break

There is no craft tonight. I need a break. Maybe for a few days. I’ve had some unpleasant stomach cramping of late and today I just got sicker – so it’s time for a physical and mental rest.

Hope you’re all well.

I’ll be back soon, but please excuse me if there are no posts for the next couple of days…

The Anthony Show

I think this blog will need to be renamed ‘Creatively Anthony’, because tonight’s craft is all due to him.

What a lovely husband I have that he not only makes cards for me (see last night’s amazing pop up card), but tonight he even learnt how to sew!

Hopefully I start to feel better soon and have more energy for all of this craft ๐Ÿ˜‰

Under the sea pop up card

Hey there, it is Anthony here.

Tonight I have gone off book and created an under the sea pop up card.

Here is the card, and nice deep sea blue.

The fish are on blue string and everything is hand cut out of card stock.

I’d really like to give this one away, so please comment below for the chance to win! Some topic suggestions for comments – what was your favourite part ofย The Little Mermaid? Have you ever been snorkelling? Or if you’d like please rate the mess I made with this post against my previous posts. Evidence of tonight’s mess here:

Winner will be announced in a few days!

To craft or not to craft?

This is a daily question for me at the moment.

So far I have been choosing to continue with the crafting. But it’s a daily struggle and I kinda just want to call it quits – especially on days like today where it is rainy and cold and my mood is on the low side.

Thankfully I have fun things like this to craft.

Who wouldn’t want to do a week of goldfish themed craft? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sailing the sorrows away

The rain reminds me that it is ok to be sad.

A constant trickle from the sky,
reminds me that the clothes won’t dry.
The walls will sigh with spots of mould.
Days will be grey and old.

The rain reminds me that I can feel sad.

A fun skateboard I will not ride
no tricks will be performed outside.
Inside no progress will be made,
and all good plans become delayed.

The rain reminds me that there is hope.

I’ll make my rain into puddles
I’ll enjoy all the warm cuddles
Though my board is not a boat
Even if my board will not float

I’ll sail away anyway…..

Boat on a board
